How we choose what goes on ChalkFree
There is more edtech than any teacher could ever try, and most "best tools" lists are really just long lists. ChalkFree is the opposite of that. We leave far more out than we put in.
How we actually decide
ChalkFree is organized around three moments that matter most to a teacher's day: before class, during class, and after class. When we look at a tool, we ask which moment it serves — and whether it serves that moment well enough to earn a spot. Most tools try to do everything. We are drawn to the ones that do one thing exceptionally.
Does it bring you closer to your students?
Every tool we consider gets asked one question. Not "is this impressive?" Not "is this popular?" Not "did someone send us a press release about it?" The question is whether using this tool moves a teacher closer to the students in the room — more present, more prepared, more able to respond to what's actually happening in the lesson.

ChalkFree is maintained by people who have spent more than 30 years building tools for teachers and classrooms. That experience has made us careful. We have seen too many "revolutionary" products that made teachers' lives harder, not easier. Our standard is simple: would we recommend this to a teacher we care about?
